help with ring info and gock/gem info

I found this ring today and was wondering about the jeweler markings on it. Can someone tell me what the stand for or where I can get more info. there is a 14 one square and another symbol in the square next to the 14. I couldn't wait for the snow to melt so I grabbed my metal detector and went to my parents and crawled around in the crawl space under the kitchen area. Ther rest of the house has a basement under it except the kitchen and Mom said it used to be the porch of the oringinal house before they purchased it in the late 50's. Also I found a really interesting rock and I would like more info on it too. It has amber or a dark topaz color to the crystals. Does anyone know what type of mineral this may be?

the 14 in the square means 14 carat, the other mark would be the makers mark. as far as the rock goes, i think it might be garnets.

though the ring is marked with a 14k, it does look plated or
gold filled. gold normally wouldn't tarnish or discolor to much.


mineral is probably something common like a smokey quartz,
but awfully pretty. I think you can clean it up by soaking it
in hydrogen pyroxide (usually the stronger sort found in
beauty supply shops.)

Here is a better pic of the hallmark. I do believe that it is 14K gold and not filled. Does anyone know what the other hallmark is that looks like a clover? I can't find anything on it.

Mineral looks like Sphalerite(Zinc ore)- Looks like RubyJack. Hardness is 3.5 to 4.0- should not scratch steel.

If it is from Tri-State you may find small square gray cubes of galena(lead sulfide) with it.
