I found this in the woods. . . NW Chicago suburbs. . . as was wondering if anyone
had any ideas as to it's approximate age/era. During the past few hunts in this area,
I've found IH, Barbers & V-Nickels. . . the oldest being from the early 1890's.

The markings on this nozzle are almost obliterated but I can read a 1-1/4 and a 1-1/2
near it's slanted tip and on the reverse, I can partially read "FRARY ??????????? & CO."

Thanks for any thoughts!

It's called an "English" shot pouch (or shot snake, or flask) head. Powder flasks used a different closure. The 1-1/4 and 1-1/2 refer to ounces of lead shot. I don't find anything under the name "FRARY".

Hey Charlie ya just beat me to it. I was literally typing that info in when the system said "Warning - while you were reading a new reply has been posted. You may wish to review your post. "
And I get so few cases that I know what it is!

Wow Charlie! You're good!

Thanks again everyone for the help :)

I can just picture some hunter fumbling around in the woods with one
of those things. . . in the rain or snow. . . now if they would have lost
a coin or two, that would be cool too ;D

LOL! Some folks STILL fumble around with such things in the snow. I use muzzleloaders in preference to modern arms for the pure fun and sport of it.

But one thing you don't do when reloading blackpowder firearms is chomp on a cigar. Not if you like your eyebrows!

(That's my original J.W.Hawksley powder flask from the 1880's and a modern shot snake with an Irish style head - used for all my rabbit and grouse hunting.)
