checkman, I have found several cannister shot here in western PA, and it does appear that you may have one there. The crack/split might have occurred along the mold line and then discarded. Is there an iron furnace nearby, or any history of the area that might suggest a reason for this to have been fired? If I have time, I'll try to dig mine out and take a measurement.

The iron furnace (in operation from the 1790's-1820) where I found mine produced cannister shot in sizes from 3/4" to 1.5". They also produced a larger 1 pound ball that was used in swivel guns often found on ships of that time period. Sorry, but I don't have an accurate enough scale to provide a precise weight. shot 004.webp

No iron works in that area but I did find flat buttons and 1800s coins in that area.

It definately looks like the picture above. I really appreciate the help. I am going to do some more research and will post the results.
