Hey screlichunter,

That is a most interesting Owens-Illinois mark. Pepsi made the change from double dot to single dot in 1951.

"During Al Steele's reign, two changes significant to collectors of Pepsi memorabilia were made. In 1951, a logo change from two dots, or a semi-colon, between the words "Pepsi" and "Cola" (double dot), to one dot, or a period (single dot), was made. These different logos are not only used as a dating means for Pepsi items, but they also serve as specific divisions in categories for many collectors." Pepsi Cola a brief history

From all that I've read on the Owens date codes, that 8 should have a 5 in front of it, for 1958. It was made at the Bridgeton, New Jersey plant.

I'm assuming it's a syrup jug. Would you please post some photos of the entire bottle?

If you're really interested in pursuing it, you might send an e-mail to Bill Lockhart: The Dating Game - Bill Lockhart

Hello Don,

I'd by-pass e-how, altogether, and that particular "contributor," in the future, as far as antique bottles are concerned. She clearly knows not of what she speaks:

"Assess how dark the glass is. The oldest Pepsi bottles were made with opaque glass. If you can see through to the other side of the bottle, it is a newer Pepsi bottle, or a new reproduction that imitates an old bottle..."

Not early 1900s. No older than 1951

Thanks for everyone's input and the great information! Very informative, SURF! Thanks! Here is a full size picture, I also had a chance to clean it up a bit.

Thanks again!IMG_20130211_221839.jpg

I wonder if these will be worth anything in 100 years...I'm holding onto 3 just in case

Yes I agree! I will be holding on to mine. No label, but pretty neat looking embossed bottom. Thanks!

I mean, heck, why not?
