Help with old ring

Hi all,
I found this old ring in a field in upstate ny and no one has been able to help me id or date or even determine what it says. Is crushed flat and appears to be be brass or copper. I tried to draw what it looks like, but then it wouldn't rotate pictures (sorry) Any help greatly appreciated.

It doesn't say anything. Probably a random design.

If not letters they must be symbols. Got to have some meaning.

Brass/copper usually means that it was plated at one time.

Appreciate the thoughts, field was next to old church from mid 1800's so im thinking its older than a plated ring. I really don't know though.
