Help with old ladder parts

I found these two heavy pieces of metal a month or so back, and just today I decided to clean the dirt off of them to try to determine what they are.

Turns out they are parts to an "E.Z. ACTION LADDER" manufactured by the PATTERSON LADDER CO., OAKLAND, CALIF.

Cool, but I can't find any information on the Patterson Ladder Company in Oakland California, and I'd love to try to get a date range for these items.

Any ideas on how to find some history on this Oakland, CA ladder company?

Yes, I was pretty sure I knew WHAT they were, what I was hoping for was some information on the company that made them, as I was not finding anything through google searching.

Turns out I did find an archived Oakland Tribune newspaper from 1935 online, that had this ad in it...
