Found this fork while I was working outside, found it in the dirt as I was grading, got caught in the teeth of my rake. Found in Ontario Canada. On the back in the middle of the shaft I guess it is, it reads "Nevada D&A" Any help would be great! Looking to find out - Age? What it is made out of? Any value? Rarity? History of Nevada D&A?

Should I clean this or let it stay as is? If so what would be best to use or not use?

Once again any help would be great thanks alot!

If you straighten the fork and clean it up then you have an old utinsel...

As is, it has a lot of character...

Thanks for quick responses! But how can I tell if this is real silver? I cannot find any other markings on the fork other than the Nevada D&A. Any other items from D&A I have found online all have other markings (which mine probobly did) and say Nevada Silver D&A, Which generally were the plated ones... Mine is missing the word silver, any ideas what this means?

Keep the answers coming thanks again!

Nevada Silver was a term used to give the impression to the buyer that it was a valuable metal, which it wasn't. Another term used around the turn of the 20th was german silver. It was generally an alloy of cupronickle and tin and contained no silver. Today on ebay you can find a lot of 'tibet silver' from China is the same stuff. Usually it will turn green with an acid test.
