I've lurked for awhile with recommendations from several for the community here. I found this medal or badge or insignia yesterday while detecting. I know its not terribly old but it is pretty neat. I've found a lot of similar ones and variations online and even a few pictures of the same exact one but just not quite enough information and sometimes conflicting information. From what I can tell, its French Commando related.. likely school or training? The 7th I think is 7th regiment. I've seen a lot of other similar ones that talk about either Commando Training Instructor school or related but not exactly what this one is specifically for with Champagne on it. The back has Drago which I believe is related to the manufacturer, Paris, and G2599. I was hoping to find more specifically what is was given out for and hopefully a rough time period when they did. I know its not too old.. maybe 70's but that's a guess from something I thought I saw that I cannot find now. It's pretty neat either way. Thanks!!

Thanks! Good call on google translate. So from what it looks like, its related for French Service in the 7th regiment during the Algerian War time-frame around the late 50's, early 60's. Probably 1961 or '62'ish.

Though.. reading again. The same insignia or badge happens to show up on that wiki page in that section and I made the assumption. What I wonder more about is the fact that it says Champagne on it. There were older French operations relating to Champagne around 1915 or '16 but I don't think this is that old. I tried to reference by the back where it has Drago Paris. (not sure what g2599 means). I found a french website from years ago that no longer exists using the internet wayback site that had tried to list out different Drago addresses and years associated. It had Drago Paris starting in 1960.

Great link @DCMatt ! I think between the two links, its most likely from the '54-'56 time range based on the back mark and probably closer to '56 based on when the regiment was reconstituted. It's a best guess. I have a lot more information than when I started so I think I'm going to mark this one solved. Thanks!
