Help with jeweler's mark in ring: "A" in a circle - ring might be gold too

Found this today and it signaled as gold. Cleaned up pretty well too, but still not 100% sure it's solid gold - need to work on the prongs a bit more too. Looks older though.

The only marking is what looks like the letter "A" inside a circle. Can anyone identify what manufacture this could be? Should be visible in the 1st pics (the white is polish that got in the lines).
