I think the spoon was a silverplated spoon. Can you read maker? You did a good job not breaking the spoon when straightening :icon_thumright:

Yeah, that's a mystery JR. Mowers and rototillers, and bulldozers do strange things sometimes. It does look intentional though, particularly if you haven't found any gashes or other heavy hits on the curled part of the spoon. My guess is that it's a jury-rig one time deal to pour something to an inaccessable spot on something, maybe to channel oil, or even melted babbit to a bearing. After seeing your relic I think next time I can't find a small funnel I may bend the bejeases out of a spoon and give it a try. it looks like it would work. ;D
