Found this along river bed in western Maine.....see a lot of white quartz but never anything like this.......would like to know more about this, thanks DSCF1618.JPG DSCF1617.JPG
 

You notice how the top picture looks like a bear. That because it a Jesuit stone

Well it could be a cat, wear a priest hat. See the X at the bottom right of first picture . The large 7 above it. It's a nice find and your journey to find what it is referring will be a hard one.

It maybe a Templar stone that looks like a hooked X. Either way a priest made it.

If you look up how is quartz formed it might answer a lot of your questions.

itledo, to properly ID a rock, it would be a good idea to get a set of hardness rods. Then, need to be able to measure specific gravity and rock volume - both simple to do, but for the SG you will need a scale. Then with that knowledge, we can rule out lots of other stuff.

Think it's weathered granite with a quartz vein in it. The rock is made up of feldspar, quartz and mica. Nice little quartz sample. That's it...
