Vhs07 is correct, it's half of a roller bearing cage or separator, I've changed many of them at work and saved the brass for scrap

Ok, I believe that's what it is also thanks for the information. How old could this be? I think it could be a clue to something I'm searching for. Could it possibly date back 100yrs?

In 1916 they were still using poured Babbitt bearings, brass is still used as separators in bearings today. Who's to say how it got there, it's possible to find anything anywhere.
