Hi, newbie here ! I have found an object that I need some info on. It is a fairly soft metal which was gouged by the small rake used to uncover it. I'm thinking silver or lead ?? The plate is in reverse and reads $5,000 on the bottom. I just cleaned it with water and a tooth brush. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Kagy

Cool find & very intriguing.

It doesn't appear to be American. Big notes like 1000, 5000 & 10000, I believe ended in the 1920's or so. Plus American notes didn't include the "$" sign.

What general area did you find it? Country?

If it is soft enough to be damaged with a garden rake, it is probably not a plate for printing paper money.

It sorta looks like an award/contest advertisement for a sporting event .. I see animals on it, a deer at the bottom.

It looks like a hand holding a money bag with $5,000 printed on the side. The arm is wearing a suit and shirt with a cuff link. Cool find!

part of a newspaper print block. probably for an advertisement, news event, or political cartoon for example

I see an elephant, myself..that phallic -looking thing is his trunk. Maybe a circus related plate.

Thanks for all of the ideas ! I. found it in the Georgia mountains on vacation. I'll do more follow up when I get home and post the results. The digging tool was more of a small pick with a pretty tough 3 prong rake on the back so the gouge may have happened on any metal except steel or iron.

Definitely a printers plate and I agree with Jasones, It's a hand holding a money bag.
Cool find. Too bad there wasn't more of it to help with the ID.

And WELCOME from California

Thank you Creskol for the flip...
