Detector(s) used
Minelab Sov. Elite 5", 8" & 10" coils. EXP II 8" & 10" coils with inline Sunray pin pointer. AT Pro 8" & 10" Coils, Equinox 600 10" and 5" coils.
Tried a Google patent search on the pat. # 40029, and came up with

J.S. Fahrney
Molasses Gate
Pat Sept. 22, 1863

Used for "IMPROVEMENT IN MOLASSES-FAUCETS" ??? ??? ??? ???

Then the renewed in 1936 part, really thew me ??? ??? ???

Tried a search on the HNS, No luck there either

I think it is brass, the dark spots are corrosion, not where any plating has come off
It was pretty crusty when I dug it
Got the dime for size

Thnaks for any help
