Help with ID... button of some kind?

I found this near my cousins house along the potomac river, about 4 inches down... is it a button or what I dont know it seems to large to be one. Thanks for your help in advance! sorry for the links but the images were too big to attach.

It is a hard metal, on my whites MD it comes up right in the center of the analog display on gold. Any more guess's?
