Certainly a harmonica reed but the lead looks like a melted glob...no real indications of being carved as far as I can see...

Yep from experience, I go with melted lead. I always did the melted lead while every one else with me digs nice bullets.

not sure if it was a CW area or some kind of camp even...have not done too much research for the area yet just a few trial digs so far

I dunno about the heart - But I agreed with the harmonica reed PLATE thing.
