Hey, RD—

Some old thimbles were actually made open at the top. Others had a stone or ceramic inset which could be used for sharpening the needle. Yours might be either of those.

Thanks pbk .. pleh, and dg39 I love finding the artifacts and i guess its up to me to get them ..No one else has been looking very much around me ,so i guess i have to save the stuff under the roads and out of the holes .. Before they cover it all up , and take it to the dump and its lost forever.. A top view of the thimble..Its the first one i have found like this :) I was hopeing maybe ,the one brass piece was a very old knife handle 1600 -1700s ?But it could be anything

Brass finger guard. Used like a thimble but could be bent to adjust for finger size.

Yep ,thats where i found the pics..I think the tip may have rusted out over time.. Its hollow also, most plumb bobs i have used where always solid to help in the wind?Maybe it is a pirate knife handle , or 1920s curtain rod :-\

It's the handle of a fireplace tool. I took another picture of the whole tool (poker), but this old computer I'm using now isn't set up for my camera. My main computer's M.B. fried. So, if I can find the software for my camera (and make it work on this old hunk of junk) I'll post the pic. Bluezman

P.S. This one is solid.

I had a pool cue years ago that was designed to look like a cane. the knob part screwed into the main body of the handle.
