I just picked this up only because my daughter made me

I don't have a magnet with me. I will be able to acid test when I get home. But what are your thoughts

Gold necklace with. 14kgt. Stamped on the inside. A quick Google search was no help. Paid 7.99. I was gonna leave it. But my daughter made me take the chance. Is anyone familiar with the mark. I was thinking gt stood for gold tone. But did see online that Italy sometimes uses the gt mark

It also has a hang tag that says love creations

Probably gold tone.

Got home and acid tested. Definitely plated. Add 14gt to your list of items not to buy

I don't think I've ever seen that word before .
thanks for the tip

That's a new one on me. KGT. Thanks for taking one for the team. Haha

Way too many red flags on that one for me.

I'd have to agree. The part that has the 14kgt mark looks way too thin and cheaper than a real piece. But sometimes you just never know. Try the magnet test! (Not on the clasp, but the chain part). If it sticks, it's fake/plated.

14 karat gold tone. Extremely annoying!

As buzzhead said.

I always check the clasp for markings, also, if the jump rings are not soldered shut it is pretty much guaranteed junk.

No worries my friend, I would have fallen for it too....

I own 4 gold necklaces , a silver necklace and a silver bracelet that don't have the rings soldered shut and a lot of the found ones posted here aren't soldered. So definitely don't judge jewlery by that at all

So for $8 your daughter gets a necklace. ;) Not bad if you think of it that way.

My jeweler told me that the jump ring on the clasp is not soldered. This is so if the necklace is pulled, that ring will break open rather than the chain.
I found an 18k one where none of the links were soldered, and it was definitely real.
