Hey everyone I dug this flat button, and I was having trouble with the shank. I cannot tell if it was smashed or is not the typical flat button shank. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks! It looks mashed down to me, probably stepped on by a horse or run over by a wagon.

Usde a tooth pick or wood skewer to clean the dirt from around it. I also think it is just bent over.

Looks smashed to me also. The tooth pick advice is the best.

Don’t try to straighten it, guaranteed to break.

I was figuring it was flattened, but I just needed some confirmation. I already tooth picked it a fair amount, but the red clay really sticks to buttons.

Nice button. Love finding them. I agree, looks bent.
