I agree this is a tough one. All crown marks are not the same. Can you get a better picture of the crown? It will help. Generically the "SV" could be the abbreviation for silver and the crown could be the Trifari crown. Just strange it doesn't have more marks.

Hey all,

I found this earing detecting a beach about eight months ago. I think it's gold and the pearl is gritty when rubbed on my front teeth. I can't for the life of me find any info on the mark. it has a crown in the center and the words sv to the right of it. any help would be great.

Pat Pall.

I totally agree Bioproff. I found sites that were saying sv for silver but this appears to be gold. it registers a +32 with my DFX ( right in gold territory ). I will try to take a better pic but that might be hard because this one was taken in Macro mode and under a thick unmagnified glass. Do they ever mark gold without a number or Karat?

I have never heard of modern manufactured gold piece not having a gold content stamp on it (or silver either for that matter). If you can't photograph the crown, try drawing it and sending a picture of that. The subtle differences of the crown will be key. I don't think I would trust the VDI for metal ID. I assume it came out of the sand "clean." That could mean gold, but it can also mean gold plate, gold wash, or Rhodium.

This is the best I could do without natural light. I hope it's better.

Much better. I can tell you that it is a chain slide.

Used with a thick chain or an Omega necklace.

Yeah, definately an omega slide.
Omega's started to become popular in the 1980's.
What does the front look like???
I would look in the same area for the actual necklace
(that slide doesn't look like it fell of itself!) ;)

Unfortunately, I don't know of any SV hallmarks.
