help with eagle relic

found this at an old cellar site , coins found in this range from very early 1800's to around the civil war era . i put an Indian penny for size comparison ,the back may have had leather attached but quickly came off and now shows what looks like three button loop type eyes . if anyone has any ideas i'm listening . thanks Dan

That or some type of hanger. Sword hanger keeps nagging me, but I dont think so. Nothing else comes to mind. It appears to be 1900's vintage by manafacture.

I was wondering that myself. Is the chain welded on?

it has the wear marks to where it would fit over a scabbard but i can only guess is that maybe it came off and was used as some other type of adornment or something more practical .
