It looks like a Spanish coat of arms on the back, but that is all I can make out.

It is definitely a Colonial-era "Virginia Halfpenny." All are dated 1773. I dug a couple of them myself in yards of colonial-era houses when I lived in Fredericksburg VA.

The copper Halfpenny was authorized in 1773 by the Crown as coinage for Virginia.
