✅ SOLVED Help with date-KGII half penny

I recently dug this King George II half penny from a saltwater environment. It's pretty well worn but there is still some limited detail where the date was. I'm pretty sure the date is 17_9 and I think it's a 1749, but then again I may be seeing things lol. I've included the date portion of a non-dug example for comparison.

What do y'all think?

Sometimes, if I lay the coin flat and shine a flashlight (also horizontal) on it,more detail will appear .

It does look something like a 2 but in the obverse legend if it is a V in GEORGIVS then it cannot be dated 1742. Between 1740-1745 the George II coins had the spelling with a U "GEORGIUS".

Yes, I would say. Plus 1749 is likely the most common given the large shipment of that year that was sent over.
