Nice finds Tim.
From my research, the badge is unusual having the book :icon_scratch: I did wonder if it could be a rifleman's or armorer's cadet badge, or even if the book was a Bible given the other find. ;D

Is that actually a figure 8 at the bottom juncture of the wreath? Might be a clue.

The crossed rifles generally indicates an infantry insignia, and, from what I understand, the wreath means a completed tour of duty. The crossed rifles replaced the hunting horn as the infantry insignia after the Civil War. I can't be sure it's significant, but if you look at the rifles they're not what you see on more modern insignia. I've got a couple of collar tabs from after WWI and the rifles on them are clearly bolt action. The rifles on the pin appear to be the old Sharps 45-70 which would lead one to believe the pin is an early version.

This is your religious medal.
The Miraculous Medal and Our Lady's Immaculate Conception
I thought it looked familiar, I have one, aluminium, from my Mum's stuff after she passed away last year.
Do you have the same reverse pattern?

In silver and treated with the elaborate surround, I suggest your medal has been properly consecrated and possibly attributed with assisting someone. In my experience of using Saint's relics and praying for miracles, it is worth your offering it to someone in need to help them.
