:read2:

I THINK you have a copy of a Greek AR Tetradrachm.

Charioteer driving walking quadriga right, holding kentron in right hand, reins in left; Nike flying above & crowning horses / C-E-L-AS, forepart of man-headed bull right.

Sicily, Gela. ca 480/475-475/470 BC

Of course yours is a copy of the coin SS just described. You can clearly see COPY.

These coins were given out as a promotion by Readers Digest. I dont remember the dates but if you google Readers Digest Greek coin giveaway you may find it. The indentation in the dead center (last 2 pics) was to help the glue will hold the coin to the book.

As you might guess from the word "COPY" stamped into the reverse, it's not a genuine coin. It's a modern replica of an ancient coin; every year one or two of them pop up here on the forum. They were apparently produced as part of a promotion for a Reader's Digest book on Ancient Greece; the large hole in the middle of the obverse was added to these replicas so they could be glued onto a piece of cardboard. There are several entries of this coin on the FORVM fake ancient coins database; this listing explains their origin.http://www.forumancientcoins.com/fakes/displayimage.php?pos=-3715
