Hi - I'm not sure about this but I'll make a guess and give your post a bump for more eyes :)

Maybe a 1670s Charles II Scotland Bawbee? The diameter is good - though the weight of your coin is a bit light. I pulled a pic of a dug example off the net to compare with your coin.

If it's a Bawbee (sixpence Scots) the obverse legend (behind the head) would read: ANG FR ET HIB REX or ANG FR ET HIB R or AN FR ET HIB R. The issue dates were 1677, 1678 and 1679. One variety of the 1679 coin is a suspect forgery. The date is found at the 11 o'clock position of the crowned thistle--when readable.
Bramblefind, if your guess is correct, that would be a great ID.

I would'nt worry to much about the difference in weight....looks a good ID to me

Bramblefind that is one beautiful id, a 1670s Charles II Scotland Bawbee, my first. I looked at the coin and it is right on. I can see the two leaves that swoop up around the thistle and can see part of the crown. The pony tail and bust is also a match. I was hoping there was enough there to get an ID, thanks guys. I noticed this has been marked solved but I did not mark it such, is this new that others can mark your thread solved??? Art
