Found an interesting button today. The back of the button has what looks like " IT" ?? Still some guilt left on this one.
Any ideas ??

The front seems to be smooth. Here are two more pics.

If this button still has some gilt on it,you might want to use some aluminum jelly on it.
That will bring out the rest of the gilt. But,that is a very interesting looking button.I love
to find buttons no matter if they are just plain flat buttons.
Congrats

I'm thinking more XT than IT and maybe something between the X and the T.

Yeah don't see many makers marks stamped in. Clean it, only other mark that I know of that's done that way is usually on a good military button. I've had buttons that corroded which did have designs, heck you can't see anything in the center on that one. Good luck!

A button that seems to be a maker's mark makes it VERY interesting. In my experience, it means it is a hand-made button, expensive in its time, and reserved for the wealthy ones. The button seems to have some oxidation issues. That may mean that the design (if present) has been "replaced" with a type of corrosion. If you remove the corrosion, much of the detail may also come off. Whatever you use to try and clean the button, I would suggest you try small areas on the back to see how the surface reacts. If you find a cleaner that works, slowly expand the area you clean. I think this one may be worth a lot of time and effort.

Is it me or is there some slight remnants of something on the front? In the picture of the front I think I see a design on the bottom left. :icon_scratch:

There's stuff on the front. Seems like a rim as well.
