1st - I noticed this was your very first post - so, Welcome Aboard spbd! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forum: Select Your Area.... for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country).

2nd - I searched Google and found a few similar buttons flagged as Nautical and not Electric...

This one has NY (like yours) on back of button BUT could only find it in "cache" so no URL

This one is like yours BUT back of button shows Scovill Waterbury
Old NES Co Nautical Ship Boat Steamship Button

Here is the information I found on the backmark:

"Browning, King & Co., NYC, 326-328 Broadway & Chicago. Clothing & uniforms from c. 1860 to at least 1934. Also listed in Chicago from at least 1888. Evolved from earlier Browning firms located in NYC circa Civil War. Buttons made by Scovill." My opinion is your button dates to the late 19th century. But, you know what they say about opinions!:laughing7:
