Not sure if anyone can identify this. I think its a button and it has initials on the top. The last one is definatley a "D". I just cannot make out the first letter. House was built in 1927 to give you an idea of the neighborhood age. Here are a few pics of the front, back and side. thanks for any help.

I have an old Fireman button that says FD on it.

Something like this. button FD..jpg

Maybe you can clean it a little.

Yes it is a face off of a button,Take a toothpick around the letters and you might be able to make
them out better. It looks like you can see some sort of a design around the border such as stars
but I can't tell for sure.Try to clean it up a little bit to get a better idea of the letters and post
new pics.

Good idea to clean it, but what I would do is clean the inside with that method--or maybe even something a little more abrasive. If you toothpick it, make sure you soak it a good while in water first to loosen anything that can be loosened. And since it is on the front, you can clean the inside of it and it will never be seen in a display--plus you'll be able to read the letters. :icon_sunny:

Cleaned the button up a little with a brush. Still has a lot of corrosion on it but 100xs better. Still cannot make out this style of lettering on it. Hopefully one of you can.

Update

We just matched the fonts on the button and its a C and P. Now on to the next step. Finding out what CP stands for in my Ohio area.

I think this may be a late 1800's - early 1900's stock/generic police button: "CP"= city police. Anyway, the "staff" button construction and Old English lettering are right for the period.

Wow great job and thanks everyone for the help on identifying the button. I asked at the Sharl Pit they also was told it is a cuff button from either a city or county police from the late 19th 0r early 20th century. I appreciate the the help and now have something that seem to be a really nice part of the area history.
