Help with button I.D.

I found this button in a Union campsite near Jackson, MS today.
The backmark is unreadable but I'm hoping someone out there can maybe identify the style.
I've never seen one with a button like this in the middle of the button.

I meant to say a STAR in the middle of the button.

Sorry, but despite coming out of a civil war yankee encampment, it is definitely a civilian button. Some collectors call that type a "snowflake/geometric" (emblem) to distinguish its design from similar civilian "flower" buttons.
