Well... the best I can find for that company with limited research is we know they were making stuff for uniforms in WW I. We also know the great seal button was introduced in 1902. What I cannot tell you is if the company is still around or when it stopped making stuff...

Somewhere in there is your year. Post 1902.

From various internet sources, American Emblem was at #4 Genesee Street in Utica, NY from prior to 1953 until they moved out of state in 1963. They made car nameplates as well as military supplies.

The American Emblem Company was reportedly founded in 1914. For some reason, they do not appear in business directories of that period, although a 1924 telephone directory listing indicates that the firm was at 333 Columbia, Utica, NY. However, as Chip V. points out, they were later located at 4-12 Gennessee in New Hartford, NY, c. 1950's-63. There is now an American Emblem Co. listed at American Emblem Company at 1966 Crooks Rd. in Troy, MI.

Going off what PBK noted....the newspaper researching yielded the earliest article from 1945....nothing earlier than that and the first article was about the company going on strike on 18 Sep 1945, but back to work by 22 Sep....then another strike in 1946. I'll see what else I can find, if anything....sometimes I can find the history of companies written up in an article....

"....union representatives of Local 9, Interstate Copper and Brass Workers, and company officials reached an agreement....."

...but will have to wait till tonight....have to be at work in 20 mins...thank goodness it's a 3-4 min car ride :)

Nice find!!!

Well, it really depends on how you type in the keywords ;D

This morning I did a newspaper search for AMERICAN EMBLEM COMPANY with earliest date of Sept 1945...well, this time I did AMERICAN EMBLEM CO with the earliest date of 1922...then the next date is 1944....so really not that much earlier. The one for 1922 just states that the school paid their bill in full to the American Emblem Co for $187 for some dog tags. Why did a school need dog tags? Anyways...let's see what else I can find that might be benefical to your piece.

Until later,
Annmarie

...........ok....most of the articles I am finding pertain to strikes. An article from 28 August 1953 states that a fire broke out in the paint shop, injuring two men. The guys were standing outside on the sidewalk and it was the blast that singed them, not seriously.

"........lacquer fumes were ignited, causing two explosions in a paint shop.....The blasts ripped through an outside ventilation stack of the plant."

Well, newspaper search is a dud!!! All articles after the strike and fire are of those who passed away that once or did work for the American Emblem Co. Sorry I couldn't find anything....bugs me to no end when I can't find anything! I know it's there....gotta' figure out some other key words to try.

If I should run across anything...I'll post. Sorry I wasn't much help :-\
