Need some help with this item I found Saturday at a home circa 1860. I was thinking it might be a slash buckle of some sort, but I'm totally guessing. Half dollar is for size reference.

Love the detail on the buckle. It screams the age of the house if you ask me.

What kind of buckle is it?

what does the back look like? it has no curvature and the width of the opening and the two holes make me wonder if it is even a buckle. I'm leaning more towards a brooch

It's a Victorian era Sash belt Slide, being that small it could have been used for a number of things, perhaps a sash on a hat.
