I dug this revolver but its in bad shape cant find a makers mark on it..I guess its under all that rust its has the number 418 on the handle..Its 6.5" in length and the barrel is 2.5" long.. photo 1.JPGphoto 2 (1).JPGphoto 2.JPGphoto 3 (2).JPGphoto 4 (2).JPGphoto 5 (2).JPG
 

Most likely .22 or .31 caliber.Most likely cartridge.You reload it by pulling the cylinder pin.Octagon barrel.The problem is there were a lot of makers.I just looked through a few hundred pictures.Came close but no cigar.

Smith and Wesson #1, dates back to Civil War.

After comparing the two photos, yours is not a Smith and Wesson, and at this point I don't even have a guess. Several companies made guns like these, but yours doesn't break open like a S & W. In your research watch for the brass frame, birds head grip, octgon barrel that doesn't break open.
