Wondering if it has to do with civil war

I can't say WHO this might be, I believe it is just a "North African Man", but it's worth looking into the Artist, Henry Mosler... He was born in the 1840's in Poland, emigrated to New York in his early life and died sometime in the 1920's. His son is also an artist, Gustave Henry Mosler. Great artwork....particularly the work centered around the civil war period when he was in his early twenties... His artwork covers a great deal of topics and people, ranging from every day life to images of people from far away locations... If this is an original work, value can range $300-$600 or more. In fact, I found this link which seems to be rather similar to this one, except for a few differences, such as the signature location and a supposed name for the piece?!?

Good luck with it!

That site has a tiny magnifying glass in the upper left that lets you blow it up.
This actually confirms what I was about to mention, that it's a plate from the periodical "The Art Amateur". There is a plate number on the top right of yours.

Why did you withhold this information found on the back? You first asked who might this be in the painting?. Clearly on the back it says AN ALGERIAN SAILOR. Some of your first postings very often leave me feeling suspicious at times as though you do know more about what you have, but just want to see how well we can do at solving what you already know. :icon_scratch: It all reminds me of this old ridio host.

But the collective time it takes people to search for answers is more than the time it takes you to take these out of their frame... does that seem reasonable?
Occassionally you've said that they "look too fragile", and I doesn't take Lon to learn how to carefully remove such pieces.
-else you lol always just be sitting on it wondering, and taking up the time of others.

Fair enough, though you may what to hone your skills of being naive a little sharper? Trust me on that. Me being in sales for 30 plus years that has been a technique that has salvage for me a few deals headed in the wrong direction.

Well I will tell you one thing if I was doing this 30 plus years I wouldn't have a problem knowing exactly what this was...... Not the zigzag guy lol
