Help with a picture where,who and when?

My observations, A Monk Sitting (the man) in front of a harbor town (all the boats off to his left shoulder) on an Island (due to the steep rise in elevation behind the bay) in the tropics (due to the potted palm tree outdoors) with century old architectural buildings. This shouldn't be too hard, but I would love to know myself looks like a neat place to visit

It looks like a Franciscan monk on the shores of Italy
Kind of hard to nail a date down exactly though

feet are hidden by robe, why on earth would anyone photo shop that?
It could be anywhere in the Mediteranean (however you spell it) thousands of islands and miles of shoreline

Cordage draped over his right leg, has beads on it i think. Prayer beads,or worry beads?.

Looks like it was taken at Mount Athos (Macedonia, Greece). The sepia tint would be consistant with an image taken from 1880 to 1930.

to me it is bigger than that .. and actually looks like the reflection in a window of some show on TV I ignored this in my first post. So this picture was taken inside behind a glass window from inside a balcony .... and the TV behind is reflecting on the glass.. l

i was going to say it was italy for sure and the reason i know this is it looks like the same city lightning McQueen raced in with those skinny winding roads on top of walls and bridges.., in Cars 2. which i have had to watch 500 times with my kids,,,lol

Hello Frankyg,

The photo was taken by Carlo Brogi, sometime before 1899 when the landslide decimated the pergola. Carlo was the son of the noted Florentine photographer Giacomo Brogi.

Carlo made a series of landscapes at the Convent and along the Amalfi Coast.

It was a great view, a favorite of those taking the Grand Tour. "Round the headlands far away, sweeps the blue Salernian bay"

i think this is the original, but im at a loss to explain kools img,as there was no tv in 1925,maybe a movie projector
or somehow at a later date
