The answer to this im sure is out there SOMEWHERE... I have been looking for a good half hour though and nearly everything I find related to the backs of old shotgun shells. Can anyone help me out here... PLEASE! This is a wierd one... It was in my yard... It seems to be brass of some sort. Its exactly 2 inches long. I did my best to get a good picture of the end. It has 3 markings on it and they are evenly spaced apart... as in it doesnt have two numbers straight across from eachother. There is a 5....5.....88. That is all though! Can anyone help me really with ANY information, or point me to a place that I can read more?

Thank you in advance!

It looks like an early military bullet casing. I cannot tell from the pic, but a guess is Frankford Arsenal made in May 1888. Cannonball Guy or one of the other experts will be along soon, I am sure.

Nice find!

HMM Frankford... that being said... Clearly it says 88...5... and 5 (OR I THINK) that other 5 might be a F... for Frankford possibly?

No bullet present, but you appear to have a .45-70 Government cartridge case. Below is a link (1888 Frankford Arsenal was correct by Kookiemonsta)
