Just went an estate sale today and found this "Champions 1912 Red Sox World's Series souvenir biography and score book" The women just threw it in our pile too lol! The big question is...IS IT REAL? The scorecard section is filled out and I would wonder if it was a reprint WY someone would fill it out... I took a look at the printing under a loupe and the majority of the printing resembles that of early lithographing. However some parts are made up of black dots. They are definitely larger than modern day pixels. Would those have been used back then? Here are some pics, take a look and maybe you can help! Thanks guys!

It "appears" to have been printed on an older printing press - definitely not from a modern-day printer. That said, I know nothing about them, but would suspect that there are fakes out there as they seem to be quite collectible. I hope yours is authentic!!

Did a bit more digging and, it appears that Fenway Park has a souvenir shop and tours. Also, it's first year of operation was 1912. My gut feeling on this is that your scorecard is a semi-modern souvenir. I say semi-modern, as the printing appears to be older, yet the paper isn't yellowed. I would guess maybe from the 50's - early 80's. ...But again, I don't even watch sports! GET BETTER OPINIONS!!

Hey thanks! Yeah I guess we can see what others have to say. I know we found it tucked away in a box of other old papers. Maybe that would have made it less likely to yellow?

Is Antiques Roadshow coming to your area?

If it were an authorized reprint, I would expect it to state that somewhere on it. As for it being a fake - seems like an odd thing to copy. Very limited market (no offense, Boston!) and potential buyers would be expected to be very knowledgeable.

You could try writing the Red Sox (include an SSAE) and ask if they are aware of a promotional reprint.

"Minimum Bid $500" - that has a nice ring to it!

Thanks Bookaroo!
I also felt that a reprint would say somewhere that it was reproduced. Not sure if Antiques Roadshow is coming around, but there is one of those super duper expensive fine antiques store a few towns over. They give free appraisals. Might have to go give them a try!
($500. wow!)

You might try asking around and see if you can locate an honest sports memorabilia expert who could maybe authenticate it for you. If it's real and if you're so inclined to, they could probably steer you in the right direction for selling it.

Still keeping fingers crossed........or maybe that's my eyes! cross-eyed-smile.gif

Looking at your pics I see two different printing types on one page. Makes me think it is a composite. Tony

Different process for printing the words and the pictures. Printing plates for the "photos" gave that dot-matrix-like quality to the print. So IMO there should be two different looks to the printing and the baseball players will look different from the words on the page. After comparing the details, the print looks like the real deal. Could we see a photo of the scorecard, please?

I'm crossing everything at this point!:laughing7: If only the Pawn Stars were around. They could just "call in an expert"!

That DOES look promising. Just added some photos so you can take a look!

Well it looks like the scores are from Game 7 which was played on October 5, 1912 at 2pm EST

One score is incorrectly tallied, but by that time the Giants had a large lead in the game. Not to say that someone couldn't write the scores into a counterfeit copy, but completely erroneous scores would've certainly been a red flag.
