Hello. I see a lot of you out there have these neat old county maps that show where old churches, school houses, etc. used to be.
Any tips on where I can find those? I've looked on E-bay, but they just have the large whole state maps.
I am interested in Wake County and Ashe County in North Carolina in particular.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Sanborn fire maps are good also. Your local library should have some. Mine has them online and I can remote access them from my home computer.

Thanks to all of you for your help.

M.M. Search on eBay for PLAT BOOK You might not find the exact one you want but it will give you an idea of what you might be able to copy from at your county seat. The little circles on the tracts show where the house stood at the date of the book.

you can access unc or duke special collections also via simple google search...both have {like ncsu} thousands of old nc maps...you can purchase copies for a nominal fee from both.....also try '' southern historical society papers'' collections at either of these schools libraries or online .........gldhntr

I just found this out today.Try the local power co,the work site,or office. They have maps of all areas where power poles are.Going back to the first poles put in.Maps show roads, some buildings, and reference points.Since everything is on the computers now, they just might extras to get rid of.
