I doubt it's a topaz. Looks more like quarts or agate to me. ANd the one on the right, break it open, it should have crystals inside the parts where the white lines are.

Well, let's start with some basic questions.

1) Where did you find these rocks? (Location can help narrow the possibilities)
2) What makes you believe the smaller one is topaz? (I'm NOT saying it isn't topaz, I'm just trying to ascertain what tests you've done or what characteristics you can see firsthand that would lead you in the direction of topaz.)

I'm not an expert on anything, but I like to guess based on what little knowledge and experience I do have. So I'm guessing the larger rock is jasper - a common Pacific NW rock - lots of the stuff here in Northern California, for example. And I'm guessing the smaller one is a beach agate. Did you happen to find these rocks in a coastal stream or at the coast near the mouth of a stream?

The rocks i found in a big dirt pit behind the local Albertson in Vancouver WA.

I dont know why i think it is a topaz .. but it looked like one i have except for the color the one i have is clear this one is more yellow

The one on the right is braciated (sp) quartzite. Basically, it is quartzite that was broken up and then 'healed' over time with quartz. It is a fairly common. The one on the left is impossible to tell from the photo. If it is from an ancient river bed it is likely iron stained quartz. That is the most likely answer, but I wouldn't bet the bank on it without being able to examine it first.

;D The small rock looks like a agate, the bigger one on the right is a rare old lever-rite.
