It was made from a real Peace dollar. They came out after Morgans. :) I've seen Washington quarters done like this, and even buffalo nickels. Can't say as I've ever seen a dollar, though.

Relic Lover,
If you have a metal detector and another Peace dollar, you might just for fun, run the detector over them individually and see if they both detect the same.
As for value, you might check ebay to see if there are any similar items.

Value? Maybe $4 in silver left. Can't tell the date, and the coin has zero collector value now, but as a piece of jewelry or art it's got to be worth $15 to $25.

So put it on ebaY and you should get $250 for it. ;)

I watched a gentleman once, at Knott's Berry Farm (near Disneyland), cut-out a dime for jewelry with a very fine wire-like file. He displayed a number of other coin cut-outs, but I cannot remember if he had any silver dollars.

Its more of a novelty jewelry and most likely very few on the market place.

I'd go maybe 20 bucks...but as Barnum used to say 'There's a sucker available everyday on Ebay." Maybe it was Bernie who said it...? Who knows.

Anyways, I just googled "cut out coin jewelry" and got a massive amount of hits...similar jewelry is going for about $45 to $65.

looks like a lot of time involved for 50 bucks! unless they used a CNC machine?

Looks like EDM work. I would think it would be too time consuming to do by hand. Especially for 50 bucks!

I believe it is all done by hand with a jewelers wire saw (they look like a coping saw with a thin wire in it) ....very labor intensive, not to mention it takes skill and patience. labor and craftsmenship=value.

I'll give you a buck for it? Bluezman

PS EBAY it.

Yes, it is done with a simple jewelers coping saw and a fine saw blade. I have done several and it is not to difficult and it doesn't take as long as you think. Like anything, it just takes a little practice.

Drill a small hole in the background to insert the blade, then put it into the saw frame. You can also just cut away the whole rim, leaving the subject(bust, animal, insignia, etc.). Just leave a little bump of material above to drill a small hole for a jump ring so you can hang it on a chain. I have also seen the Mercury busts cut out, with ear posts soldered to the back for earrings.

not a morgan --its a "piece" dollar -- they were after the morgans---most likely real---they cut them out for jewelery. and get the value of it that was and then sell the cut out "scrap" silver for a little extra cash Ivan
