Hard and shiny under the rust. I think it has a lot of nickel or something to make it read good. Looks like a P stamped on 1 side. No idea what the ends are all about. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Pat. I added 2 pictures that show a slight curve like it might have been in a press. The top has a ridge in the middle possibly to keep it from sliding out and the bottom has been tapered on all 4 sides likely to make it easier to insert. I'm hoping to find someone who has seen this in use and can tell me what it was used for.

It probably rang up nice because it's large iron, most detectors get fooled on big iron, if I had to guess it looks like an old felling wedge, loggers wedge for chopping down trees.

Hi, Thanks for your input. You could be right about the large iron ringing good, but I don't see it being a wedge. I added some pictures and thoughts.

Hi, Thanks for your input. It could be a leather stamp put into some kind of press. I added some pictures and thoughts on that.

Hi, Thanks for your input. It doesn't look like it was designed to be struck on the end. I added some pictures and thoughts about them.
