Any insight as to the country of origin and century these might have been made? There of red clay it seems, large one is about size of basketball with shiny glaze on interior, when light is reflected inside the jars it seems like gold flakes that shimmer back. These along with others were recovered in very deep waters in Visayas, Philippines. Can anyone steer me in the right direction are they rare? What might they be worth. Thanks in advance
Steve

No doubt from a ship wreck since they were found in deep water. Would take some serious research about the seas and shipping around the Phillipines I would think to be able to ID them. Probably very worthwhile for a museum and I'd guess worth quite a bit if authentic. Notice I said "guess". Monty

This is just a theory. I know they use similar jars for catching octopus. they are tied together on ropes around the rims and lowered to the bottom and left for a time. The octopus find them and make thier homes in them. They are them pulled up with the octopus still inside. maybe they were lost or became un-tied.

...again, just a theory. ;D
