How do you go about finding new place to go toi find the older stuff ?????????? I live in central Ohio. Any advice would be welcome. Thank you everyone :D. Back to cube land

Go to "old" schools, churches, park's etc. and dig deeper... the good stuff usually starts at 6" but can be much deeper...

It's all about location, location and location... go to the library and check out some books on your areas history, this will give you clues for
searching...

Also while at the Library ask for any old maps of the towns and compare them to current maps. You may find a lot where a historic structure was.... Also find the old train station vs/the new one and the like. Good luck but I think you will find its all research and not luck at all. HH

Ohio has a lot of history (especially mid to southern Ohio) and more so in areas near the major rivers.

Do some research on your area/town/river, etc. and I'm sure you'll find some good leads,

Hey Walt;
Those other folks told you true. Have metal detected for over 20 years I'll tell you what I do. Find the oldest person in your town or any town you travel to, sit down and have a talk with them. i usually offer to buy them a cup of coffee at the local diner. Old folks love to talk and tell stories about this place or that place. Inquire about where they swam to cool off in the hot summers and where the richer people lived. Folks didn't trust banks back then and usually hid their money in the yard often in the well house or beside a corner post along the fence line. Inside they hid it under the fireplace hearth. Old churches are great spots also where did they have the county fairs long ago?
I gave up looking for coins years ago. I have bags of coins and they just arn't worth the effort. I just look for jewerly and cash caches now. Another great way it to watch for real estate listings of old houses. If the people are selling an old house they will usually let you detect before they move out.
Another is to run an ad in the "community interest" or "lost and found" section of the paper offering to "find" lost jewerly for "free." They usually don't charge to run these ad's for you and I've not only found a lot of lost articals for people but it's led to permission to hunt some great sites.
As they said, research is 90% of treasure hunting.
In addition to getting permission make sure you pile the dirt on an old towel. It makes it easy to refill the hole, replace the grass divot and leave no trace.
Never go without a cell phone and first aid kit.

Parkways(you know that grassy area between the sidewalk and the street)its city property and open to detecting(unless the city has passed a law)you can go into the older section of town and detect.This is a good section to look in,especially in areas that had parking meters.Even in residential areas it is a good,because people would would lose coins as they pulled their keys out of their pockets.I have found a lot of old coins and jewelry this way.

Ace, google your metro parks dept.you should be able to pull up a list of your city parks and there ages.check out the oldies.

good luck HH Mark
