I found the object on a deceased relative's deserted homestead in British Columbia. Object was located where his cabin was burned in 1939.
This brass part we thought was perhaps a cover for an access hole for lighting a gas lantern, but someone that deals in antique Coleman Lamps has never seen anything like this. Coleman had made some special Lamps for the US Forest service in the ‘30’s, and apparently some for Canada too.
Diameter is 1-1/16 inch.
The buttons on each side are spring loaded, and when squeezed, the retainer tabs move inward. Maybe it’s for a different brand of lamp or?
Inscribed around the outside is: SAVE THE FOREST
and on the center bar is: FOREST SERVICE CANADA
Any assistance identifying would be appreciated.
