Found a thin pendant of a soldier saluting holding a long rifle with a dog on the left, cow scull in the middle and a cross or fence post on the right that reads 'VERY' I think.

The item was found at a site producing military artifacts such as bottles, buttons, sash buckles and snaffle bits from the1860's.

Was surprised to find this item and have no clue what it is. All help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Looks like "Hunter with Hounds" of some sort

The more I look at it, I believe it is a hunter with a dog and a downed bird.

Hunter with Hounds is some type of artwork style. I don't know much about it other than my mother had a figurine on their mantle that was similar to your pendant and that's what she said they were called.

Very interesting! Boy, dog, gun, probably squirrel, looks more like beaver. Looks like he's reaching back to beat something with whatever it is in his hand. Whip, rope, fire hose? The cross or post, don't have a clue why it's there. Amazing how we all see thing differently. Be interesting to learn more about it. Thanks for sharing and working my brain a little.

I think it is the open work off the front of a Victorian era picture button.

Here is hunter with dog & game (a rabbit). I think the animal on the ground on your relic is a pheasant.
