I found this on a beach in Southern New Jersey that had beach replenishment done this past summer. On previous hunts I was finding WW2 items that were in the sand that had been dredged up. This coin was found about a foot deep. I took it to a jeweler friend that could only tell me that it was silver but had no other info on it. Any help would be appreciated.

Looks like a cob? M could be Mexico mint? No date, looks lean and sharp, Could be fake? Odd find for New Jersey. Still a really cool find.

Could it be a religious medal? There looks like a religious cross on the first 2 pictures.

Like they said. Spanish cob, Mexico city mint mark. Now the round dollars are found in NJ on the beaches from time to time and also on MD and DE beaches. You just need to know if it's genuine or not. A coin dealer will be able to tell you.

Check the edge for a seam. Seam = frown.

your images make it look cast and not struck, which would mean tourist piece.

if you enlarge the pics you can see part of the casting seam
