They are Chinese and I think they can date back into the 15 or 1600's. I've dug some myself in VA and I think it was Kuger who dug some in CA as well. They aren't worth much but cool to find.

I've dug quite a few as well here in California. Probably got 50 or 60 by now.
Amazing something that old, and it's now worth anything. There's sites that help you figure out the date and dynasty of the coins. I takes for ever sometimes to match it.
I'm sure someone here will post the link.
Still neat to find

I didn't realize so many were found in the US. I've dug maybe 12 or 15 at the most and only in a couple different sites. The first one I ever saw was one my mom found in an old button box back in the '60's. She gave it to me and I still have it.

Chinese cash coins "can" date back nearly 1000 year but they were made or copied by other Asian countries well into 19th century and many high quality, modern counterfeits are out there.

I have two that came from Vietnam back in the 70's (given to me). The kanji characters on them indicate they are very old. However, based on a number of factors, I believe them to be copies.

Do some research to determine if yours are the real deal.

Well, after hours of reseach on Chinese coins I went with my first suspicion.. It is a Japanese coin..
Kan-ei, Kamedo Shouji Mon, Hai Bun mint.. 1668.. Common coin, not valuable, but very cool.. And yes it is genuine, right metal, size and weight also most repo's don't have a mint mark...
