Looks like artillery to me as well. Have you checked any Maryland re-enacter's sites? Might find some info there.
 

A little bump to get it read. I have not seen any button with two cannons not crossed. Has anyone?.

what he's found is a button commemorating Bristish Admiral Edward Vernon's 1739 capture of Porto Bello, Panama. The victory resulted in Vernon becoming a very popular folk hero in North America (Mount Vernon is named after him). These mid 1700's buttons are very rare. I found mine near Yorktown, Virginia.
