Ok I thought I know the larger of the two was 100% civil war but apparently not, I've got these listed in today's finds and a fella told me the large on looked to be from the Indian wars not the civil war!!! Anyhow I figured you civil war guys could shed some light!! Thanks

You need to post a photo of the back.
The way the shank is attatched is important in dateing..also..is there any backmarks?
The small one is an Infantry button.
Cuff or sleeve size. The larger looks to be Infantry as well.."Coat size".. but I can't see if there is an "I" in the eagles chest like I can with the other.
Where were they found?
Both are very nice and in good shape.. could be Dragoons buttons from the Seminole wars if found in Florida ..but need to see the back.

I agree with GatorBoy. The smaller one is Infantry and the larger one looks Enlisted. I know that these types were well in use by the time Johnston's Army made it way to the Utah Territory in 1858.

Here are a couple of mine from the Second Seminole war 1835-1842
The way they are made can help date them.
I belive the Indian wars you're referring to came later.

By Infantry, they mean most likely Union infantry. Confederate infantry buttons had a whole different look.
