Detector(s) used
white's spectra V3, eclipse 5.3, bullseye pin pointer 2
i am trying to learn how to adjust the sensitivity correctly, first i have a whites spectra v3 and i am hunting old parks and homesteads. I am typically using a coin and jewelry program and i would like to get better deeper signals. I have no problem digging up anything i like getting my hands dirty lol. but i have been trying to read up on it but its just not the same as someone else telling it to you. I already dig up pulltabs and older clad but no luck on silver very very trashy. I have the whites eclipse 5.3 and it seemed to do a good job in the trash but not deep enough for that silver so I went back to my stock 10.5 DD and i am picking up everything and I'm having a harder time pinpointing with it. the MD would read vdi+ 85 quarter at 5in but would dig 10in with nothing to show for, help would be great

You should start out with the preset sens. and if in a trashy area you have to turn it down from there. This will reduce depth but it can't be helped. If you are hunting parks take notice that hunters before you could have taken a lot of the silver out already because it is so conductive it sounded off loud and clear. You need to over lap your sweeps too so you cover all the ground and go slow. Many walk to fast an expect to find coins by chance. The smaller coil is good for trash, but they lack depth. Can't be helped. To much sens can actually get you less depth.

Pinpointing with the DD coil should be easy. When you hear the good signal, slowly wave the coil back and forth to narrow down the location an when you have a thin line pull the coil slowly toward you till the signal stops. While still in line with the target, slide the coil forward an as soon as you again hear the signal the coin is directly in front of the center of the coil. Depth can be read when you slide the coil forward more once you have the ground marked where the coin is. If it is shallow, like within 3 inches you can just pop it out to save time before you move on to another target.

Many of the forums say the factory resets on the V3 are to hot. Try reducing sens and stay with the larger coil unless there is too much trash. Remember that all the easy to get silver is long gone, hunt brushy less likely to have been detected areas You will have to learn to balance sensitivity to the area hunted, this it true with most detectors, more so when you have trash.

If the detector said there was a coin there at 5" it was either there and flipped on its side when you dug the plug or was a crushed can at 11".

A couple friends who just got their detectors had the same problem. After observing their technique my advice to them was to dig a larger plug and use a Garrett pro-pointer.

Check out the many videos on youtube. Even if not the same detector many of the techniques will be the same.
